Lost Woods
Child and adult 3 listed sources
The Lost Woods sends you back to the entrance when you take the wrong gap. The right gaps follow the melody of Saria's Song.
Melody as a map
The entrance is the cliff tunnel out of Kokiri Forest. Listen, or remember the tune: the correct tunnel is the one the song's next phrase points at. Skull Kid waits in a clearing and trades a heart piece for Saria's Song. Business Scrubs sell from their holes. The Forest Stage reacts to the mask Link wears and can reward Deku Stick or Deku Nut capacity upgrades. Gold Skulltulas hide off the correct path on purpose, which means a wrong turn is sometimes the collectible.
The meadow at the end is where Saria teaches her song if you do not know it yet, so the first visit is guided by sound you are still learning. Adult Link finds Mido on the path and has to play the song before the meadow opens. That is the line between a child stroll and an adult errand. The remake's forest is denser. The loop rule is the mechanic I will still teach.
Follow sound, then use the song — original game
The first child trip is not a test of knowing Saria's Song before learning it. Listen at each tunnel for the stronger music and follow the route toward the meadow. A wrong exit returns Link to Kokiri Forest, so start again from the entrance rather than assuming the save is stuck. The Skull Kid heart-piece exchange and the two Skull Kids' memory game are separate activities in different clearings. Soft-soil patches also support two different collection systems: release bugs for Gold Skulltulas, and plant beans for adult platforms. The Forest Stage rewards capacity upgrades in response to masks; it does not upgrade the masks themselves.
