People asking whether Ocarina of Time is open world, or whether N64 and 3DS guides match, are usually mixing releases. Start with the row that matches the box you own.

Which row should you read?
The 1998 game runs at the pace players remember from a cartridge: Z-targeting and an automatic hop. The 3DS release, made with Grezzo, rebuilds models, moves Iron Boots onto the item screen, and adds Master Quest as a mirrored second quest with double damage. Switch Online is that 1998 game under emulation, and Nintendo's own page says performance can differ from the cartridge. The remake is the only one with a dedicated jump, a sprint and a free camera. Ship of Harkinian is a source port, not a Nintendo product.
Open world is the wrong label for every row. The 2026 development notes describe a rebuilt Hyrule, not a new overworld structure.
Questions
Does Switch 2 play the old game too?
Yes, through Switch Online's N64 library, separate from the remake.
Where is Master Quest?
On 3DS after you finish, on the GameCube bonus disc, and in Ship of Harkinian if you have that ROM. Not in the remake.
