Kokiri Forest and Forest Temple 4 listed sources
Saria stays in the forest when Link leaves. She puts the Fairy Ocarina in his hands at the bridge, and later she is the Forest Sage.
Friend, then sage
She is the Kokiri who treats Link as a friend rather than as the boy without a fairy. The farewell at the edge of the woods is where the Fairy Ocarina changes owners. Her song, learned in the Sacred Forest Meadow, is both a phone call and a key: it calms Darunia, it moves Mido, and it makes the Skull Kid hand over a heart piece. Those uses are written up on the song page so this one can stay with her.
Seven years do not age her face. Kokiri do not grow. What changes is the Forest Temple, where she is held and then revealed as the sage of the forest. The remake gives her Suzie Yeung's voice and a new model. If you came for the button chart, it is R-A-Y-R-A-Y on the remake pad. N64 players use the C-buttons listed on that song page, not a guess from this biography.
Find her before Death Mountain — original game
For the early lesson, go back through the Lost Woods after meeting Zelda. The music guides the route toward the Sacred Forest Meadow. Pass the Wolfos and the maze to reach Saria at the far end; speak to her and accept the song lesson. This is useful before approaching Darunia in Goron City, because playing her melody changes his response and leads to the Goron Bracelet. Link receives the Fairy Ocarina at the forest farewell, but that instrument gift and the song lesson are separate events. In the adult era the same melody identifies Link to Mido, opening the route back toward the meadow and Forest Temple.
Questions
Does Saria age?
No. She still looks like a Kokiri child when she becomes the sage.
Where is she during the adult era?
Inside the Forest Temple until you clear it.
