Dark Link

Water Temple 3 listed sources

Dark Link stands on the island in the Water Temple's central room, by the dead tree. Beating him opens the room with the Longshot.

Do not fence him

He starts faint and spends the opening seconds more like a mirror than a duelist. Then he copies your sword. A straight thrust gets stepped on. A jump attack is a gift to him. The methods that keep showing up in the dungeon notes are Deku Nuts to stun, Din's Fire as a burst he does not mirror cleanly, the Megaton Hammer, and the reach of Biggoron's Sword. His health tracks your heart count, which means a completionist Link is fighting a longer copy.

There is no item on the body. The door behind him is the reward. The remake redraws the figure and the room. Bring the same tools you would have brought on the Nintendo 64, and read the Water Temple page if the door you need is actually a small key, not this fight.

Preparation for the original encounter — original game

Dark Link is a miniboss, so there is no blue exit portal and no medallion scene after the fight. The next chest contains the Longshot, which upgrades the Hookshot's reach for the remaining Water Temple route. Bring magic if planning to rely on Din's Fire, and keep the Megaton Hammer available as another way to break the sword-copying rhythm. A defensive reset is often better than repeatedly pressing the same attack into his counter. Once the room becomes ordinary again, check the newly opened doorway rather than hunting for an item on the island. Keep the original Water Temple's six-key route separate from remake-specific required-key reports.

Questions

What do you get for winning?

The path to the Longshot. He does not drop a piece of heart by himself.

Does he appear anywhere else?

This fight is the Water Temple room. Other dark reflections in later Zelda games are different encounters.
