The 3DS remaster
Nintendo 3DS, 2011 Sources checked · 7 Nov 2026
Ocarina of Time 3D arrived in June 2011. It is the portable release people still hunt when they want Master Quest in one cartridge.
What Grezzo changed
The portable version, developed with Grezzo, targets 30 frames per second and replaces the old models and textures. Iron Boots and Hover Boots move onto the item buttons, which matters the moment you reach the Water Temple: you are no longer pausing to the equipment screen every time the water line moves. Gyro aiming and the touch screen show up on the slingshot and the bow. Sheikah Stones play hint clips. A Boss Challenge menu lets you refight bosses you have already cleared.
Master Quest is on this cartridge after you finish the main story. It mirrors the world and doubles enemy damage. That is a different ruleset from both the 1998 game and the 2026 remake, which ships without Master Quest at all. HowLongToBeat's single aggregate, checked 7 Nov 2026, lists about 25 hours for the main story, 31.5 with extras, and 38.5 for a completionist pass. I am treating that as one site's sample, not a stopwatch I ran.
For a new purchase in 2026, look for a compatible 3DS cartridge. Nintendo ended new eShop purchases in March 2023; previous owners can still redownload eligible purchases. If your only goal is the new jump button and the voice cast, you want the Switch 2 page instead.
Questions
Can I download 3D from Nintendo today?
New eShop purchases ended on 27 March 2023. Prior purchases remain eligible for redownload; new buyers need a cartridge.
Is Water Temple easier?
Boots are assignable items and color-coded markers clarify the route. The core dungeon layout remains the same; these are navigation and equipment improvements.
