Rain, grottos, and the well

Play it and the weather turns. Grottos open. Magic Beans get their water. The windmill interior, once the song is known, is how the well below Kakariko drains so child Link can enter the Bottom of the Well. The frogs along Zora's River pay a heart piece if they hear it. Those are the uses. The lesson itself is adult-only, from the Phonogram Man, which means a child who already knows the song is the loop the man complains about.

You do not need a ceramic fingering chart. The buttons are enough, and the remake microphone will try to hear the contour. If the well is still full, you are playing in the wrong room: the drain happens inside the windmill, not on the village path.

Two ages explain the windmill — original game

The adult musician remembers a child who made the windmill spin wildly. Showing him the ocarina teaches Link the tune he remembers, setting up the time-loop joke when Link later returns as a child. Play it inside the windmill in the child era to drain Kakariko's well. The frogs at Zora's River offer a separate Piece of Heart for hearing the song, followed by another reward for their later insect-catching challenge. In the overworld the melody can reveal certain storm grottos, so a green Navi response can be a clue. It is not a warp song and does not replace Bolero, Serenade or the other destination-specific melodies.
